Father, My First Love

Life, like a stormy sea spares none
Wrecking the vulnerable
Only allows the sails
That can brace with time and trouble

Father, the first master
Holding the tiny hand
Teaches the art of living
Steering the strife
Inspiring all along
How to wade through the troubled waters

No words can communicate such lessons as the living examples
Of a dear loving father
A *Wali*
The custodian,
A beacon of safe havens
Or a friend

Towering high above all odds
And he has to,
While pruning and trimming
Carving to shape out
The sapling
His own seed
Making it ready
To flourish on its own

*Walī *(Arabicولي‎, plural ʾawliyāʾ أولياء), is anArabic word meaning “custodian”, “protector”, “helper”, etc.
